Informations
As one of the most popular destinations in Dalmatia and Croatia in general, Blue Cave is a must see. Blue Cave or Blue Grotto or Modra špilja is located in a bay of Balun on the island of Biševo, about 9 km (5 miles) from Komiža, Vis, and over 69 km (111 miles) from Split.
It is most famous for its natural glowing blue light, caused by the sun’s rays reflecting off the white floor of the cave and bouncing onto the limestone rock walls inside. The intensity of the blue color varies with the season and time of the day. It’s best visited on a bright sunny day between 11 am and 12 pm as that’s when the sun is just at the right angle intensifying the entire experience.
If you want to visit the Blue Cave and want to do it in just one day, booking the “Blue Cave Tour” is the right choice for you given the fact that Biševo is quite a remote island, just a little further out from the settlement of Komiža on neighboring Vis (the furthest of the main Croatian islands from the mainland) and there are no accommodation options on the island, hence the travelers only disembark here for a short while.
Therefore the “Blue Cave Tour” is a tour designed to be the best use of your time and money by visiting other destinations such as the islands of Vis, Hvar and Pakleni.
Vis Island
The island of Vis is perfect in many ways and offers a variety of experiences and destinations such as heavenly bays of Stiniva, Srebrna, Stončica or Zaglav or picturesque towns of Vis and Komiža or the interior with it’s authentic island experience and let us not forget the Blue Lagoon of Budikovac.
In all honesty, it is impossible to visit all of these paradises in just one day, so the “Blue Cave Tour” takes you to the crown jewel – Stiniva Bay (also known as Stiniva Cove or Stiniva Beach)
Stiniva was voted the most beautiful beach in Europe by the tourism organization European Best Destinations. Located at the southern part of the island Stiniva Bay is dominated by high cliffs that form a small “sea entrance” to a lovely pebble beach and clear turquoise sea. Stiniva was once a large cave formed in the ice age However, the cave collapsed thousands of years ago to form this beautiful cliff-lined cove.
Hvar
The island of Hvar is Croatia’s longest island, better known as the sunniest place in all of Croatia with an annual average of 2,726 hours of sun and for more than 5 months a year, the sea temperature is above 20°C. Only in January and February is the air temperature below 10°C.(The emperor Diocletian, before he retired, sent his men along the Dalmatian coast, being Dalmatian himself, to measure the temperatures and count the sunny days, Hvar came in first place on both counts with today’s Split as second and Split only won because of the mountains and islands surrounding that the emperor considered a better shield from its enemies). The natures playfulness on the island of Hvar is visible at every kilometer of highly indented coastline.
The “Blue Cave Tour” takes you to the city of Hvar to experience its unique blend of nature, history, gastronomy and modern lifestyle. There is something for everybody once they come to the city of Hvar, one of the most popular destinations in Croatia visited throughout the years by many celebrities.
Pakleni Islands
Pakleni islands (Paklinski Islands) are a chain of 16 islands located off the southwest coast of the isle of Hvar that were proclaimed a protected nature park because of their beauty. Many translate the name Pakleni to Hell (Pakleni – Hellish) Islands though the name Pakleni came from Paklinski and that came from “paklina” (tar) a type of resin harvested on these islands and used to coat ships. Pakleni islands are a very famous attraction for sailors, nature lovers and young people being a beautiful unspoilt piece of nature that will enchant anyone who sees it. The legend says that the islands were created as a result of a secret love between Poseidon and a nymph.
With the “Blue Cave Tour” you will get to see all of the islands sailing by them, and get to experience the unique beach experience at one of the resorts located on the islands Carpe Diem Beach.
